Vision
As per UNICEF estimates, over 6.5 million children are currently not in primary school and another 2.7 million are not in lower secondary school. A bad or no education means literally millions of children are being left behind in Pakistan. Each generation that is born under or around the poverty line will unlikely get the education that helps them reach their full potential as humans and become contributing members of Pakistani society. Many children work six-hour shifts at mechanic/furniture workshops which deprives them of both a happy childhood as well as basic education that a child deserves. This is a sad depiction of the current depleting education system.
Arjumand foundation has a mission to improve these statistics. This foundation believes that our schools will bridge that gap and will make a difference. We are a non-governmental organization and our mission is to change the educational landscape in Pakistan by imparting basic education and skills to the vulnerable members of our society i.e. women and children within our society.
With learning and education comes confidence and empowerment but most importantly a sense of responsibility. We aim to instill these traits in all students who enroll in our schools and institutes.
About Us
The Arjumand Foundation is named after the late educationist Arjumand Yousaf who dedicated her life to the education sector. This organization has a vision to educate children as well as empower women. Arjumand foundation envisions an educated Pakistan where women and less privileged children are given the opportunity through education and skills to a better world, future, and eventually a better life. This foundation has a vision to expand into a network of schools in different locations in Lahore and beyond to assist women and children reach their potential, who currently don’t have the means to do so.
What we do
Our School is called “Roshan Kal” which means “a Brighter tomorrow”. It was set up by a dedicated group of individuals in early 2015 who saw the need to educate Pakistani under privileged children; who are either engaged in daily wage work or they are “Street Children” and belong to poor families with little means to educate them.
The objective of this school is to act as a pipeline for children aged 5-10 years old, who never had any exposure to a school in the past. We place these children into basic literacy programs where we primarily teach them Maths, English, Urdu and then facilitate their transition to government run schools for middle level education.
For our children coming to school is a refreshing and delightful experience versus the tough life that they endure every single day. For the children, this is home, school and a haven where they break away from the hardships and all their needs are met.
We have also incorporated vocational education for girls as part of our curriculum. A vocational education will assist women to gain useful and practical skills. This will enable them to have economic independence and will empower them to either work part time or establish their own line of work.
Our Team
The success of “Roshan Kal” can be attributed to the teachers who are the most valuable resource for us. We have an experienced and trained staff that is adept at educating Children from difficult backgrounds. We also have the equipment to teach girls various skills such as a beautician, sewing, and the art of block printing. The team is dedicated to their work and their lives revolve around the needs of our students, rather than the financial reward they could gain elsewhere.
